Story
We have a crazy life!
2 years ago, we adopted a newborn baby. Told he was healthy, we took him home and enjoyed every moment of his precious life. He was born at 27 weeks, spent 5 weeks in the NICU, and was given to us. We thought things were going so well...until we found out his birth mother and he tested positive for copious amounts of cocaine at his birth.
At 6 months of age, he was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. At 8 months, he had a feeding tube placed. Our life was turned upside-down. We went from a two-income, no-real-worries-about-money-family, to a UH-OH family in a heartbeat! The medical bills are outrageous. But they don't matter. He matters. His smile and his idiosyncrasies make him who he is...and we are honored to be his parents.
We are trying to form a group for special needs children in our area. We want to be able to teach them the skills it will take for them to play with other kids in the "real" world. And, we want to let parents reach out to each other. I mean, seriously, how many times have I been on a date with my husband since we adopted him? Once. And we had to come home because our babysitter couldn't figure out what to do with him. I'm sure there are tons of stories like ours out there, and it's a true honor for me to find, meet, and pray for and with them!
We have a website/blog to track our journey...
