My husband got laid off this past June. He had been working for a financial ratings company that took a big hit after the sub-prime Mtg crash. We knew in December that a ;lay off was inevitable. I love the term "lay off"... It used to mean that there would a be a job waiting for you when things got back to "normal" now it's just a nice way of saying "you're fired... and here's some severance for a couple of months" When he was laid off this time it took longer for him to get a job.
